This week I did a little bedroom refresh. It’s been cooling down at night and we’ve been opening the windows more. The coolness feels so nice, but there have been a few times where I reached for more blankets, so I decided it was time to add a few more layers to the bedding situation. I knew Wayfair would have just what I needed as we head into fall.

You may not think of bedding as a styling piece, but it absolutely is, and I would even argue it’s center stage! It’s an easy place to layer pattern, texture and color and really elevate the feel of your bedroom. I usually keep the ruffles in the girls’ rooms, but I couldn’t resist this silvery blue-grey comforter & shams (under $60!). It adds an unexpected feminine touch with the ruffle, but in a more masculine color, and I love how it compliments the wall color. (You can learn all of the paint colors in our home in this post.) I’m loving it for the end of summer. I layered this waffle cotton knit blanket on top. The fringe detail adds so much texture to the space. And finished it all off with this lumbar.

When it comes to styling I always opt for a few bigger pieces instead of several smaller items. It feels so much more intentional and you don’t get that clutter-y feeling. You want your bedroom to be an inviting, calm & relaxing environment. Leaving some negative space lends to that feeling. One way we kept things minimal was by putting our dresser in the closet and replacing it with an oversized floor mirror. It keeps our room feeling open and reflects allll that light. Bonus- it’s one less catchall for items to collect dust on.

If skipping the dresser isn’t an option, keep the dresser styling minimal. A mirror, oversized lamp, and maybe some sort of greenery should be enough to make it look intentional without over styling. On my nightstands, again, I have an oversized lamp, small catchall and a family photo or clock. Try to keep it minimal. I like to coral rogue charge cords with these, or these if you have a few cords to keep.
Whether you have carpet in your room or not, I 10000% recommend adding a rug under your bed. It’s an opportunity to add texture, color and even comfort (hello CloudPile rugs!). It also helps define zones within the space. If you have a king size bed I would do at least an 8×10′. The rug we have in here currently is machine washable and comes in all the sizes.
